where i live the ice is still in or is just coming out of the lakes. We are planning on going fishing on a local warmwater lake next week but expect the water temp to be about 35-40 degrees. In the lake there is black crappie, smallmouth bass, pickeral, and the occasional trout at the outlet. How should we fish it and what should we fish for?

Depends on what seasons are open, our bass season opens Memorial Weekend and our pickeral and trout aren't open either. I'd check that first.

I would find some suspended structure and drop a Maribu Crappie Jig down tipped with a minnow for the crappie. Not sure about the others, hope this helps. My friends who are avid crappie fisherman are catching white crappie this way right now.

I would Jig for the crappie, too. Also try jigging different rigs and plastics. Around my area, you can catch nice crappie and smallies on similar setups in the spring.
