What would be the difference in baitcasting an spinning? I fish bass in a lake with ALOT of snags. Which should I get?

A spinning reel reel is designed around casting the line. During the cast, line folds off of the side of a spool putting a twist in the line for every wrap on the spool. Then when the bail rotates to return the line to the spool, it should wind the line back onto the spool putting exactly one twist into the line in the other direction. The net restult should be a twist free line, but with the added clutch slippage, it never seems to happen. Advantanges are mostly the distance that people can cast with a miminum of pratice.

With a baitcast reel, the spool must rotate to let line off and to return line back to the spool. There is nothing in the mechanical part of the reel to promote line twist. With pratice, almost anything that can be done with a spinning reel can be done with a baitcast reel.

I like baitcasting because I have more control over my lures. I am just much more accurate. So in bass fishing that translates into more fish and fun. I use a SuperCaster 1000 and catch anything from a 4 once bream to a forty pound redfish. I even caught about eighty pound amberjack on the little baitcast reel.

Look at the pro bass fishermen, they all use baitcasters. In my opinion baitcasters will give you more control once you are used to them. As far as the snags, use weedless lures, as what reel you use will not matter as to getting snagged.

They both have their places. Short answer: baitcaster for heavier stuff and spinning for lighter lures. But if varies and a lot is personal preference.

If you use heavier lures a lot, get a baitcaster. If you like light lures, get a spinning
