I think that's one of the reasons that they're here in the first place----having been released by immigrants from Asia who like to eat them and wanted a fishery here.

Countryroad is right they were brought here from I believe China as a food source. They are pretty hardie creatures from my understanding being able to live out of water for an extended period of time and being able to walk/crawl/move across land to other water sources, they to my knowledge will attack you. You need to call your local DNR official and let them know you caught one and where.

Country Road. Don't pin it on immigrants releasing the fish for a fishery. Tough it is true they are here because people like to eat them they were not released with the intent to establish a fishery.

vtbasser---I've heard a couple of stories about their introduction including the old stand-by of being released from aquariums after they got too big. They are attractive little guys when they're small.
