I recently caught a bass 22" long and weighed about 5 lbs. I would like to get it mounted and I went to our local taxidermy and it cost about 9$ an inch! Does anyone know of any cheaper?

I also saw something, sorry, can't remember where, about taking pictures and measurements and having a model made and releasing the fish back into the water. If I ever get anything wall worthy that's what I'll probably do. Congrats on a nice fish, by the way.

I cant honestly say what the going rate is on fish but ive looked around for deer heads and im just going to say as these guys said you get what you pay for. mine cost $500 (deer) to get done, I could have found a guy to do it for 350 or maybe 400 but the quality of work for something that will be on my wall for many many years to come its worth the extra money.

007 is right on track! It's the latest and best way to "capture" that sizeable fish for your viewing pleasure. Be ready with:
*camera ready to take a photo, in color
*tape measure to document the length and girth
*date of the catch AND the release.
Catch & Realease Taxidermy is here now, and it's about time. Models are already in the taxidermist's shop, molded of resins and looking alive in a fighting pose, mouth open! The cost is roughly one-half of the "old school" process, and process it is! Hence, the cost. Any fish, from a 5lb, 22" LMB to a full size bill fish can be had for half the price. Ever been to a Cabela's? That's precisely what they have hanging on the wall and your bass can be made immortal!

Reply to Which Is It ?by MattM37I don't believe there is a definitive answer. I'm more nitpicky than most about language but I don't have a problem using the terms interchangeably....

Reply to The Culture of Lyingby MattM37I'd say it goes all the way back to the beginning. There are just a lot more ways to hear the lies nowadays.
